Case Study - Shop Pay Integration Accelerating Checkout and Boosting Conversions with Shop Pay

About the Client

A national retailer that’s been outfitting communities for decades, growing from a single storefront into one of the largest specialty footwear and apparel chains. With a mix of online and physical stores, they’ve built a reputation for quality products and a strong connection to their customers. Their ecommerce strategy is powered by Salesforce Commerce Cloud, offering a true omnichannel experience.

Challenge

This retailer knew that checkout was one of the biggest levers to improve conversions. They already supported digital wallets like PayPal and Apple Pay, but wanted to go further. The goal was simple: make it as easy as possible for customers to pay the way they want — whether online or in store — and in doing so, lift conversion rates.

The team knew Shop Pay from Shopify could help lift conversions, so adding it was the natural next step. While Shop Pay can now be integrated with platforms like Salesforce Commerce Cloud, it wasn’t as simple as flipping a switch. While some payment providers offer a ready-to-go cartridge, this was not an option for this retailer due to their Commerce Cloud setup. Instead, it took custom development, thorough testing, and some creative problem solving to make sure Shop Pay worked flawlessly in their environment.

Solution

That’s where Red Van came in. Our team worked closely with the retailer to design and build a custom integration of Shop Pay into Salesforce Commerce Cloud. Shop Pay was added as a new payment option across multiple sites. Plus we helped launch an innovative in-store payments flow where customers can complete checkout privately on their own device with Shop Pay, credit card, or another method. It’s secure, fast, and convenient — no waiting at a register required.

There are also plans to add a “buy now” button on product detail pages to reduce clicks and speed the path to purchase. Behind the scenes, the Red Van team handled all the heavy lifting including porting code, ensuring fulfillment types were supported within the payment request, and building in store selection options. The entire project was completed in just a few weeks.

Higher conversions. Customers who use one-tap wallets like Shop Pay convert at higher rates than those using guest checkout.
Faster checkout. The one-tap experience, plus a “buy now” button, makes buying almost effortless.
Future-proofing. Shop Pay is evolving quickly, and this project positions the retailer to benefit from new capabilities as they’re released.
